“A person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so” is how the dictionary defines an entrepreneur.

That doesn’t sound very sexy, now does it? The definition omits the true essence of an entrepreneur—one who puts his or her health, life, and sanity on the line to feel as if he/she has made a worthy contribution to society.

If you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, you are more than likely wondering what it truly takes.

Sadly, there’s no blueprint you can follow to guarantee your success but there are certainly a few stepping stones you can take note of in learning why successful people are successful.

1. Get Known

You’re probably wondering why successful people are successful. Many people envision an entrepreneur as being someone who works 18-hour days, doing nothing but eating, sleeping and breathing his or her business.

We tend to paint the picture of someone so driven to succeed that their entire life involves working. Of course, hard work is a key to succeeding as an entrepreneur -- it takes grit, after all.

But it doesn't have to be like that in reality. The single biggest problem every entrepreneur has is becoming known. Your most important task is to get attention for you and your company.

It's the gateway to every dollar you raise. Getting your product or service known out there will contribute greatly to your later success.

By not paying attention to creating a brand and creating awareness around that brand, you’re unknowingly depriving your business of the highest potential it can reach.

Equally important is identifying your client niche. You should be clear as to what type of audience will find appeal in your products. Identifying your customer is a very important part of garnering attention within the industry.

2. Learn To Accept Criticism!

Working smart, finding the right people to get the work done, and doing more with less are all keys to being a successful entrepreneur. Unfortunately, they are no guarantees.
You have to be realistic — not every business succeeds.

Sometimes the concept just wasn’t right or the competition was tougher than anticipated. Oftentimes, completely unforeseeable situations occur, ruining your forward momentum.

You have to be prepared to fail, but more importantly, not be afraid of failing.

One of the most important things you need to realize in order to be successful is that if you fall down seven times you have to be ready to get up eight! Be open to criticism and view it as constructive, NOT destructive. Learn from it and grow instead of floundering.

A hater is pretty easy to spot—someone who is disgruntled enough to actively turn to every avenue they can find to talk about how much they hate you and your business.

Though it may not seem like it, these haters are a good thing.

Haters expose vulnerability. No business is perfect and haters sometimes have valid points. It requires an open mind to be able to focus on the heart of a complaint and ignore the emotionally-charged aspects.

But if you can do this, it can make you and your business stronger because it helps you get stronger.

Haters can also be converted. There are many types of haters that may come to your business.

The most frequent type isn’t the one who will passionately hate your business forever, but rather someone who just gonna hate!

Remember at the end of the day a hater isn't a hater, they are 'quitters' that's why they are hating on you. Successful people never hate on others, they try to elevate them,

4. Build Trust

Nothing should be more important to an entrepreneur or business owner than building trust, admiration, and respect with prospects, customers, and associates.

However, this is not an overnight occurrence and admirers will not flock immediately nor will they be gotten undeservedly.

One way to build trust is to provide value and creating goodwill with your prospects, and a great way to do this is to simply create valuable content that helps people.

As aforementioned admiration is earned and as such can only be gained over time. To be a truly successful entrepreneur one must be patient and continue putting the best version of themselves forward while waiting for admiration to come.

Remember, people have to buy you before they buy from you.

5. Work Hard

If you want to build a successful business and have the good life, then you have to work hard!

You have to be willing to do today what others will not so that you have tomorrow what others won't.

Trust me, the success will come and it will be worth it.
